Park Drain II -DEQ

College students – Hope for the future

Students at a local college were asked about college loans, future job prospects and their thoughts on possible government bailout for student loans. I think you’ll agree these students are not exactly the typification of the Occupy Wall Street group. They certainly give a reason for older Americans to be optimistic for the future. Be sure to listen to both part I and II.

I’d like to draw your attention to the comment found under the post announcing our next meeting where Steve Goreham will present information relative to climate change. Note that anyone can post here. Rarely is a post censored and to my knowledge no “approval” is required. An exception might be wordpress (blog system) flags comments with obscenities. In this case, it appears “Nicole” used an email that contained on of the seven dirty words that George Carlin years ago told us weren’t quite nice.

Of course, George told us that many years ago and today, those words are perfectly acceptable to the left and the kind of liberals who post in the Holland Sentinel. It’s interested that “Nicole” took the time to tell us that (he or she? isn’t interested in attending, even though everyone is welcome.

Let me say this to “Nicole”: you are still welcome (if you can behave yourself). Your viewpoint is also welcome (if you can express it in a civil manner). You might also benefit from a program offered by the League of Women Voters and the Progressive Alliance of West MI. The program is all about “Civil Conversation” and encourages open discussion of opposing viewpoints. I’m not sure why their program originated. Perhaps it was the vulgar comment on the airwaves by Rush Limbaugh. Or perhaps it was the use of “violent” words like “target” that immediately brought condemnation to Sarah Palin as instigators for the shooting of Rep Gabriel Giffords in AZ.

Yes, I suppose that language is not welcome in today’s dialogue. On the other hand, calling Sarah Palin and her family far more despicable and vile names, is perfectly acceptable to some people including our president who quipped, “If they bring a knife, we’ll bring a gun”. So much for violent language. In fact, the president seems to regal the latest verbal obscenities of Bill Maher and of course, the million dollars Maher donated.

Be as it is the the double standard in the media, this blog will always be open and transparent. (Please watch those seven words though)

The News Media bombards us daily withwarnings about the dire consequences of climatechange. Rising seas, hurricanes, droughts and floods are projected results of man-made global warming. Political leaders, academics, scientists, and the United Nations have placed mankind on a course to try to stop global warming.

But is all this really correct? Contrary to popular Consensus, Steve Goreham, Executive Director of the Climate Science Coalition of America and author of:

“Climatism! Science, Common Sense, and the 21st Century’s Hottest Topic”

Steve will argue global warming is due to natural cycles of the Earth and not greenhouse gas emissions. Our Federal and State governments are pursuing policies that won’t affect the climate but will have a major negative impact on each American Citizen. Please join us and you will learn what you can do to influence the debate with your elected officials!

Freedom of Religion Rally March 23, 2012

Ottawa County Patriots will participate with many other groups as part of a Nation-wide effort to rally against the Abrogation of Religious Freedom and Freedom of Conscience as guaranteed under the 1^st Amendment of the US Constitution. The Event is called the 1^st Annual Freedom of Religion Rally.

We will gather peacefully at Federal buildings across the United States on Friday March 23^rd, 2012 at 12 noon to protest the Federal Health & Human Services Mandate for all employers including religious institutions to provide types of health care services that may violate that person or business or institutions conscience or beliefs.

The nation wide event was originally conceived by the Pro-Life Action League in cooperation with the Citizens For A Pro-Life Society. Since then many other pro-life, religious, civic and business groups have joined the cause to protest abrogation of Religious Freedom and Freedom of Conscience.

Hollanders speak on the price of gasoline

For your listening pleasure, lets see what some West MI residents have to say about the price of gas. I’ve interjected some comments on Exxon Mobil profit and gasoline tax, but here’s a thought to ponder. 2-3 yrs ago, the price of gas was roughly half what it is today, yet the price per barrel of oil is hovering around $100. which is about the same as 2008. So why has it doubled?

I found it interesting to note that no one suggested the today’s dollar is so much weaker. In fact, if we went to the grocery store, a great many items are double what they were in 2008. In essence the price of oil hasn’t increased. Rather the value of our dollar has decreased. Perhaps a question is to “why”? is a subject for another day.

Straw vote results

Tues, Feb 21. Ottawa County Patriot members participated in a non binding straw vote for candidates vying for the US Senate seat currently held by Debbie Stabenow.

Results of that staw vote are as follows

1st – Randy Hekman – 29% of vote

2nd – Gary Glenn – 28% of vote

3rd – Pete Hoekstra – 19% of vote

4th Clark Durant – 12% of vote

5th Pete Konetchy – 11% of vote

6th Sotty Bowman <1% of vote

Members were asked to indicate 1st, 2nd and 3rd choices by a common means of counting ballots by “weighting”. Weights awarded 3 points for 1st, 2 points for 2nd and 1 point for third. This initially caused confusion but common sense prevailed, yielding the above results. Percentages of points do not add up to 100 because two members did not indicate beyond a first choice.

Because Clark was not able to attend out Jan 24th forum a separate one man forum was held via phone. Clark was on video tape at his end of the phone conversation and answered the same questions with the same time restrictions as the other candidates.
